Wally Famous Amos
Speaks of Never Looking Back
Most everyone has heard of or tasted the cookies of Wally Famous Amos, but few know of the many contributions this amazing man has made to America. He says that he is a man with a mission. But his mission is more than most of us would consider, with it’s three pronged approach. He says life is about living out your dreams, inspiring others and figuring out potential in others. To this end, Wally Famous Amos is quite the success story.
While he was born in Tallahassee, FL, his life there wasn’t exactly what one would call stable. At age 12, he moved to New York City to live with his cookie inspiration, his Aunt Della Bryant. There, he developed his “can-do” attitude.¬† After finishing school, Amos did a stint in the Air Force for 4 years before entering into the business world with Saks Fifth Avenue.¬† He moved on to the mail room at William Morris Talent Agency and moved up to become the first African American talent agent with the company. There he was one of the first to ever book the Supremes, Simon and Garfunkel and Marvin Gaye. Always looking for a better opportunity, Amos moved west with his young family, where he began his legendary cookie company on Sunset Blvd. This was in 1975, back¬†before the days of Paul Newman and Emeril Lagasse lending their names to products and projects.¬† Building this project from ground up, Wally Famous Amos lived by three main principles: work hard, be positive and don’t look back.
Amos was never content to do only for himself. Being famous helps him draw attention to his own personal causes and to help others. The cause nearest and dearest to his heart was that of literacy. Amos served as the national spokesman for the Literacy Volunteers of America from 1979 until 2002. In 2005, along with his wife, he founded Read It Loud! to promote reading out loud to children. As if all these achievements weren’t enough, Wally Famous Amos is author of eight different books. He is also a¬†renowned¬†speaker to sold out audiences and businesses across the country. He stresses quality, substance and positive attitudes.
